Palliative, Hospice and Cancer
Transportation in Ontario
Total Care Transport provides compassionate non-emergency transportation for palliative care patients, hospice transfers and cancer patients across Southern Ontario. We understand these transfers are different. Our driver-attendants take their time, treat every patient with dignity, and work closely with hospice and palliative care teams to ensure the journey is as comfortable and calm as possible. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week across Halton, Brampton, Kitchener-Waterloo and Etobicoke.
How We Approach Palliative and Hospice Transport
There is no rushing a palliative transfer. Our approach reflects that.
We arrive at the time that works for the patient and family, not a schedule driven by vehicle efficiency. We coordinate directly with the palliative care or hospice team on timing and positioning requirements. We introduce ourselves calmly, explain what we are doing at each step, and take as much time as needed. Families are welcome to travel with the patient at no extra charge.
If the patient requires a stretcher, our two-person teams handle the full transfer from bed to stretcher and from stretcher to bed at the destination, with care and without urgency. If the patient can sit in a wheelchair or standard seating, we provide accessible transport with full ambulatory assistance.

Stretcher and Wheelchair Transport for Palliative Patients
Many palliative and hospice patients require stretcher transport because they cannot sit upright comfortably for the duration of a trip. Our two-person stretcher teams are experienced with palliative transfers and understand the specific positioning and comfort needs of patients in this stage of care.
For patients who can sit upright, our wheelchair-accessible vehicles provide dignified, comfortable transport with full ambulatory assistance.
If you are unsure which service is appropriate, call us. We will ask the right questions and help you make the right decision.

If you do not see your facility listed, call us. We serve all of Southern Ontario.
Cancer Patient Transportation
We regularly transport cancer patients to and from treatment appointments including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical consultations and follow-up care. Cancer treatment is physically and emotionally exhausting. Our driver-attendants are trained to provide patient, unhurried assistance and understand that a patient leaving a chemotherapy session needs more support than someone leaving a routine appointment.
We can set up recurring transport schedules for patients undergoing multi-week treatment programs. One call arranges your full treatment schedule.

Palliative, Hospice, Cancer FAQ
Can we request a specific pickup time that works for the patient?
Yes. We work around the patient's schedule and comfort, not a fixed timetable. Tell us what time works and we will be there.
Can family members travel with the patient?
Yes. A family member or escort is always welcome to ride along at no extra charge. For palliative and hospice transfers we encourage this. Let us know at booking so we can plan accordingly.
Do you coordinate with the hospice or palliative care team?
Yes. We contact the receiving hospice or care team before departure to confirm arrival time and ensure they are prepared to receive the patient. Families should not have to manage both sides of this transfer.
What if the patient needs to travel lying flat?
Patients who cannot sit upright during transport require stretcher service. Our two-person stretcher teams are experienced with palliative transfers and handle the full transfer from bed to stretcher and back with care. Let us know at booking and we will assign the appropriate crew and vehicle.
Can you transport a patient who is receiving oxygen?
Yes. We carry portable oxygen on stretcher vehicles. Confirm at booking that oxygen is required and provide the flow rate if known.
How do I arrange transport for a family member in hospice care?
Call us at 905-878-1170. We will ask a few straightforward questions about the patient's mobility, the pickup and destination addresses, and the timing that works for the family. We handle the rest.
